ABOUT THE PIECE:
Across from Northern Illinois University's music building, a lagoon is surrounded by serene lamp posts. These lights are brilliant and pure in color, like glowing white orbs reflecting on the surface of the water; the orbs appear as if dancing among the water and the wind. After a long day of practicing, I would often find myself walking around the lagoon admiring the simplicity of the lights reflecting on the water. Not only was this sight truly striking, but it also gave me time for my own reflection at the end of chaotic days. Post-Lightened is a play on words referring to the physical lamp posts and reflection of the light as well as my own personal reflection.
This piece is dedicated to Evan Chapman. Evan, thank you for trusting me on one of my first electronic music endeavors. This has indeed been a time of reflection and learning.
ABOUT THE COMPOSER:
Alexis C. Lamb (b. 1993) is a composer, percussionist, and educator who is interested in fostering communities of positive and genuine music-making. She is the Education and Publications Director for Arcomusical, a non-profit organization that advocates for the artistic advancement of the Afro-Brazilian berimbau and related musical bows (www.arcomusical.com). Arcomusical’s first album, MeiaMeia, made the ballot round for 2018 Grammy consideration. It is released on Innova Recordings and can be found here.
Lamb was a recipient of the 2018 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Award for Meia, her solo-through-sextet song cycle for berimbau. Lamb’s research on the history and traditional use of the berimbau in Brazil earned her a first place prize at the Northern Illinois University Undergraduate Research and Artistry Day in 2013. Lamb also received the Undergraduate Special Opportunities in Artistry and Research (USOAR) Grant and the Honors Enhance Your Education (EYE) Grant for her work with the berimbau.
As an educator, Lamb was the 6-12th grade band director for Meridian CUSD 223 in Stillman Valley, Illinois for two years. She received the “Recognition of Service” award at the Meridian 223 School Board Meeting in August 2017 and “Teacher of the Week” from Channel 13-WREX News in Rockford, IL in December 2017. Lamb also teaches private lessons for guitar, bass, percussion, and composition. She was the interim percussion instructor for the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra in spring 2016 and created a week-long percussion camp at NIU for 4-12th grade students of varying abilities that has now grown into a faculty-led camp through the NIU Percussion and Steel Pan Studios.

ABOUT EVAN CHAPMAN:
Based in Philadelphia, EVAN CHAPMAN is a percussionist, composer, and filmmaker who has built a prolific and unique career by seamlessly blending multimedia and contemporary music. Chapman is a founding member of contemporary-classical percussion trio/rock band Square Peg Round Hole, whose original compositions have been dubbed a “creative adventure” by NPR and have received further acclaim from Modern Drummer Magazine, Paste Magazine, and Mental Floss, among others.
Chapman is also a founder and owner of film production company Four/Ten Media alongside longtime collaborator Kevin Eikenberg. The duo’s background as classically-trained percussionists has allowed them to create fresh and musically authentic representations of pieces in the contemporary classical and pop worlds. Four/Ten’s client list includes internationally-acclaimed artists such as the Bang on a Can All-Stars, So Percussion, Alarm Will Sound, The Crossing Choir, Contemporaneous, Third Coast Percussion, LA Percussion Quartet, Pig Iron Theatre Company, David Lang, and many more. Their work has been featured by major press outlets including the New York Times, Alternative Press, NPR, Mental Floss, Paste Magazine, Q2 Music, and I Care If You Listen.
